“No Suit, No Tie, No Problem!” God accepts you as you are and so do we!
The South Vernon United Methodist Church is a small, friendly church on the south edge of Mount Vernon, where every person is welcome and valued as a child of God. Our worship service is both informal and inspirational. Our music is a mixture of both traditional hymns and contemporary gospel. There is a time for sharing with our children in the main service and a children’s church time. The messages are Biblically based and the prayer time welcomes both the concerns and joys of the congregation and community. The first Sunday of each month and at special times throughout the year we share Holy communion. There are carry in lunches once a month following worship. The dress is casual and in the summer months shorts and T-shirts are welcomed. Shirts and ties are welcome but not at all necessary. Likewise for women, dresses and skirts are welcome, but not required. We are here to praise the Lord and to grow together in our love for God, for each other, and those in our community.
Our location is at the corner of Columbus Rd. and Pittsburgh Ave. next to Columbia School.
Our lovely prayer garden in the back of the church is a place
where you can sit and be with God in prayer
– We also have Central Air for comfort –
About the Pastor
Rev. Carolyn Greene
Rev. Greene’s earliest encounter of faith can be found in her recollection of her mother constantly and visibly modeling resolute faith as she cared for Carolyn’s ailing brother. She tells of yearning to read the Bible, memorizing scripture and knowing God even at a young age. She came to appreciate the power of prayer; learning contentment and patience as well as experiencing blessings. From beautiful sunsets to empowering books, she desired to be totally immersed in God’s presence. With a sense of urgency she began to seek opportunities to be of service which led her to summer camp in New York, where at the age of 17 she knelt in full obedience and encountered God’s Holy Spirit and sanctifying power.
With the full support of Ray, her husband, Rev. Greene was inspired to continue her theological education. Throughout the years they have traveled together doing evangelism, women’s & children’s ministries, clowning, drama, storytelling, and art. She recently completed her work for her Doctor of Ministry degree at Ashland Theological Seminary.
